Cantor Fitzgerald, CIM Enter CRE Lending Arena

NEW YORK - Cantor Fitzgerald and CIM Group have formed Cantor Commercial Real Estate (CCRE), stepping into the financing arena to originate competitively underwritten fixed- and floating-rate mortgages and mezzanine loans. The broad-based plan targets diverse properties primarily in urban communities in major U.S. metropolitan areas.

Cantor Fitzgerald will provide management and capital and Los Angeles-based CIM is the lead investor and co-general partner. The CCRE management team will be led by Anthony Orso, executive managing director of Cantor Fitzgerald and CEO of CCRE.

The initial annualized loan production is projected at $5 billion. Howard W. Lutnick, chairman and CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald, categorized the new platform as "a defining moment in commercial real estate lending" because CMBS origination and loan structuring historically has been kept in-house by Wall Street.

"The fundamental quality of assets, credit quality of borrowers, and high standards in loan structures will be the hallmark of our transactions as we make loans and launch securitizations," Orso said. CCRE is positioning itself for refinances of nearly $1.4 trillion of commercial real estate debt that will be coming due in the next four to five years.
